- VIT certainly keeps empty ranks and later uses those slots for filling and selling. (Shady!)
- VIT has multiple categories. So one can get CS VIT by paying that something extra in a different category even without the shady route in 1. So you may not get it in the first round of so called merit seats but if you reappeared for round 2 you will get it. In other words, there are separate seats in round 1,2,3,4 in addition to shady route.
- I bet the best fellows in VIT CS (forget other lesser branches) will be probably the 2000th rank in say TN, Andhra or Karnataka if you use CET (or marks as the case may be) as a measure. RVCE CS in final round in General does not take more than rank 250 or so and ECE is around 300 approx. RVCE does not have more than a 15% or so management quota; VIT is almost a graded management institution and price decides the seat along with how bad you are in VITEE.
- VIT is not the #1 choice of TN colleges. Infact it rates after CEG, MIT, PSG and probably alongwith CIT, SVCE etc. I have ignored IIT and NIT in the discussion. RVCE on the other hand is choice #1 in Karnataka. You have the CET #3,4,5,6 yet in the fray for the seat there in ECE or CS.
- The most terrible truth which made me clearly choose RVCE over VIT is the following and any student and parent needs to get this into their head. In VIT (a Univ) there are about 2K seats in CS. Even if you joined as say rank 1000 in VITEEE (which places you say in the top 10 fellows joining VIT) when you come out there is no guarantee you will be in the right place. In RVCE under VTU with 10K+ CS seats you enter in the top 200 of the final output. Even BMS or MSRIT will guarantee you a top 500 place in CS of VTU. So a company coming to VIT has the labourious job of filtering who it wants in the 2K. So the Wipros who employ hordes come and gobble in VIT. However the high paymasters with max requirement of 5 candidates who pay the 15L+ will not want to waste time filtering from 2K candidates. They will take the 200 from RVCE and get going. In simple you want some job you can join RVCE IEM vis a vis VIT CS but if you want the dream job you are likely to be much better with RVCE simply because the classification is already done. Think of it why do IITs shine (I am one myself). They are already filtered and truly so in my times (nowadays I dont know how to touch them too as we can find them in CS with a 5K rank and in all branches at 9K too!).
- The last reason was the final reason for my accepting my son’s decision on choosing RVCE over VIT (infact BMS and MSRIT too over VIT) if branches are same. PESIT on the other hand nowadays has diluted its worth so much that you can join via PESAT into CS without any probs. PESIT via CET is around 600 for CS but a person getting 11k and more have got into PESIT CS via PESAT . So how does one know after 4 years how you entered the system. Labourious interviews needed!
- After labouring with my son for past year plus I have concluded that the Indian education system is an absolute CxxP today. If you are in the top 1K ranks in JEE advanced you certainly are ok, even if you came in by cramming madly. After that IITs are ok and top 4 NITs (RECs for me!) top branches are ok to a point. Then it is the local top colleges that will be fine. VIT, SRM, Manipal are all good if you fit into say the first 2L of the crowd but you can be anyone from 5K to 5L if you joined them. So the employer will need lots of effort to identify you.
- So if you have an IIT degree even if you crammed in (as most clowns do it today..I cant digest 5 point someone…even the last guy in my times were much better…explains what happened to IIT even in Chetan Bhagat’s times!) you are certainly fit in the top 20K in the country. If you are in the top 4 NITs and in CS,IT,ECE,Mech (non mining, civil, met etc) then again you are in the top 50K of the country. Parallelly if you are in CS, ECE in top colleges like CEG, RVCE, and similar colleges in various states (Jadavpur?, Osmania? dont know the list!) you are yet likely to be the top 50K in the country. The VITs etc with CS, ECE should mean top 2L in the country. Rest of the classification does not exist and employers choose by the candidate. So the tier 1 is supposedly IIT, NIT(top), tier 2 is the rest I mentioned and rest are as per your game at the end of the 4 year story.
- I wont guarantee today that a specific boy in VIT wont be better than the top 100 ranks in IIT since the whole system is CxxP. However in my times if I am an IITian I can state that I will have to be basically smart, while I will admit others can also be smart. Today if a boy studies for 4 years+ say from class 8 and gets a 1100 rank in JEE, can I call him smart. Is he going to read for another 4 years to get to understand B.Tech Year 1 in IIT and so on? Worse still JEE main is a blunder with questions from CBSE books. So an ISC boy has trouble. How can we rank using normalisation? TN board gets 5K to 10K 100 mark averagers in MPC…what better CxxP can be there. How do we identify them?
- Finally students are joining colleges (including my son…I sadly admit) to gain from placements and higher studies. I learnt to think in IIT Madras. I know my subject from IISc. I live my LIFE. I made my fortune in no time and I am today doing NOTHING. In simple I LEARNT THE SUBJECT OF LIFE. Today with the money-money attitude, the employer will have to go mad recruiting anyone. So shortcuts like RVCE over VIT is very useful. How else can you explain an RVCE guy get a 60L Indian salary? Something special about that guy…no more…not RVCE added value. In IITs the proportion of such guys are more. However even a girl in BGS college I believe got an aid in Georgia Tech. In simple it makes the recruiter go mad.
Which college is better VIT Vellore or RV College of Engineering?
