Between an MD (doctor of medicine) and an MS (master of surgery), which one is better and more famous?

  • 0

Its like comparing apple and oranges.
MD is a medical degree in india where as MS is surgical. Both are essential and mutually complementary parts of medical sciences. So one cannot say which is better. Even if somebody labels one or other better, it will be his or her personal view.
More famous, again general population donot understand the medical terminology and generally know only about MD. Its a matter of ingnorance rather than fame. People are also ignorant about superspeciality degrees DM and MCh.
As far as medical student’s are concerned, there is a fear about sugical branches for being hard and litigation prone or longer training is needed. While its true for first two, superspecialisation is also the need of the hour in medical branches.
In economic terms, with exception of cardiology, a average surgeon earns more than his average medical counterpart.
So its individual choice what a person wants to be. A post MBBS student is usually too naive and usually follow the popupar trend. A person should apply his brain and should choose what he really want to do than following the trend (read:Bhedchal).
