For my daughter, I made the following checklist after the results.
She was interested only in MD(General Medicine).
I went through the last year allocation list and checking the cut off rank for General Medicine. (AP and Telangana got into all India counseling for the first time).
We shortlisted the colleges that we might join.
After shortlisting the colleges, we checked the following details:
- How is the connectivity from home town?
- How is the climate and food?
- What is the college fees and hostel fees?
- What is the stipend?
- What is the bond period?
- What is the penalty if we break the bond?
- Do we need to give any bank guarantee?
- How many units are there in the medicine department?
After collecting the above data, we avoided the colleges where the bond period is more and the penalty is high.
We checked the list of documents required for submitting at the counseling, we had enough of Xerox copies and kept them ready.
Her hard work got her dream branch in her dream college.
Do enough homework once the results are out.
Try and get as much information about the college in which you are going to join esp if it private or deemed universities.
It is worth visiting the college and have the first-hand information by talking to the seniors of that department.
Please read the rules carefully, especially the bond, surety, guarantee and penalty clause.
If you happen to leave in the middle, you may have to pay a heavy penalty and also you may not be permitted to appear for PG entrance for the next three years. So be very careful while filling the choices.
Don’t join the branch that you don’t like. The first year PG life will be very tough. So be mentally tough and strong.
I thought to prepare for NEET-PG is the toughest period in the medical student’s life. Now I realized that it is not the toughest period but the most uncertain period.
The toughest period will be your first year PG days. Huge patients flow, night duties, need to work even in the weekends, prepare to work on festival days too. One will get just 20 days leave for the whole year.
So I conclude one has to know the following things before going for counseling:
- About the college
- College and hostel fees
- Stipend
- No.of years of bond service after completing the course.
- Penalty if we break the bond.
- Any hidden charges.
- How far is the hostel from college?
- Language and culture
- Climate and food
- Patient flow and faculty.
Hope you liked the answer.
