Being student of IIT Patna ,I find myself eligible to answer this query.
First of all, I would request you not to fall for an old college.All the new IITs are growing rapidly and some have even staggered ahead of some of the old established colleges.
Now, talking of IIT Patna, it has a well established campus and has achieved great heights within a very short span of time i.e. less than 10 years.
Regarding CSE Department it has well flourished since the establishment of the college.
#Has a fine educated (This all of the above will surely have) and supportive faculty with Director himself being from CSE departmment and also extremely helpful and guiding seniors.
# This time IIT Patna represented India in the world finals of ACM-ICPC known as “Olympic of Coding” held at Beijing along with 7 other teams and it was the only team from a new IIT. IITP secured 2nd rank in the Kolkata-Kanpur regionals only behind IIT Delhi and then went on to secure 72nd rank in the world finals and 3rd amongst the Indian teams behind IIT Roorkee and IIIT Hyderabad.
# This time a total of 14 students cleared GSoC( Google Summer of Code).4 of them were from 1st year,7 from 2nd year and 1 each from 3rd and 4th year.(Highest among new IITs)
# IIT Patna bagged 4th position in the Inter IIT Tech Meet 2017 and 8th in the 2018 edition ahead of all the new IITs.
