ISM Dhanbad was made an IIT in 2016, and has a long way to go to compete with the 2008 IITs, which have already completed 10 years. I will compare the 2008 tier IITs as per different fields.
Academics and Research –
IIT Hyderabad – Strong tie ups with Japanese Universities and Companies, Fractal Academic System, Great syllabus and professors, Locational Advantage of Hyderabad leads to great placements. It is a strong contender for becoming one of the best IITs among all setting exponential growth.
The greatest Alumni Network –
IIT BHU – BHU was good even before being made IIT in 2012, so they have their graduates working almost everywhere in India. Anywhere you go in India, you will recieve support from your alumni.
Hardcore Competitive Coding Culture –
IIT Indore and IIT Patna have been immensely successful in competitive programming competitions, and also in GSoC and similar events. They will soon be able to fill the gap in Competitive Coding Culture that the older IITs have always neglected.
