How’s life at Hindu College, Delhi University?

  • 0

Hindu college is one of the top colleges of North Campus of Delhi University academic wise and infrastructure wise as well. The college provides adequate facilities and opportunities for overall personality development. Good faculties along with well maintained practical labs (wherever required) and library takes care of the academic front. The classrooms are also well maintained in terms of blackboard, lights, fans, conditions of chairs etc. Practicals labs offer all the facilities in terms of latest instruments, adequate space for carrying out practicals and faculty’s guidance. Hindu college has a decent playground which was upgraded during 2010 Commonwealth games to international standards. And I am sure it is well maintained like it was during my graduation time (2005–08). Basket ball court was the place where I spent most of time in the playground, infact I started playing basket ball there only. The sports room have other indoor games to offer as well like chess, table tennis, carom etc. But one thing you need to take care of is attendance 🙂

I’ll tell you a story on attendance. When I first joined Hindu, it felt like a college straight out from Bollywood movies, it has a big garden at the entrance, then the main building follows, then practical labs at the rear side of the college, followed by lavish green playground and an adjacent canteen, where you can enjoy awesome Rajma-Chawal. Everything was like a movie, so I also had high hopes that students here must must occasionally be found singing and dancing around the campus. Well nothing of that sort ever happened, and this disappointed me a little. But anyways I still believed that since this is such a cool college, attendance is not a problem. So I concentrated mostly on my basket ball skills. This continued throughout the 1st half of 1st year of graduation till the point when a letter was received by my mother from college about short attendance. It was really a shocked to me when I reached home that day in evening and my mother asked me “you go to college regularly, howcome your attendance is short”. It took me sometime to recover from the shock, I gathered my nerves, calmed down a little and replied “mom there must be some problem with the accounts, I would check it tomorrow in college” . And the day was saved 🙂 From that day I made sure to atleast keep my attendance upto the mark. 🙂

I mentioned canteen above, here I must say that Hindu’s canteen has been always among the good canteens across North Campus. Besides, other good canteens are at walking distance from Hindu such as Delhi School of Economics, Ramjas’s cantee, Holistic canteen etc.

Hindu has a jolly environment. There is a tree in front of the playground which is V-shaped. On every valentine’s day, 14th Feb, a new Bollywood diva’s poster is put on that tree and one of the hostler, clad in traditional Indian dress, dhoti-lungi performs pooja of the poster and then sweets are distributed. Besides this also a nice hangout area otherwise.

And the location of college also have benefits, it is located at a walking distance from Miranda House and Daulat Ram College 🙂 Further,North Campus is well connected with Metro ad ‘Youth Special’ buses run by DTC (not sure of this service still available though.
