IIT Indore is one of the semi-new IITs that started in 2008 and is doing extremely well in almost all arenas-sports, cultural and academics. Be it T v/s M, GSoC, ICPC, start-ups, projects or Inter-IIT Meets- there isn’t anything where IIT Indore hasn’t come out in flying colors. Here are some of the points which prove IIT Indore’s unstoppable success and versatile richness in every field it is associated with.
- Life in this baby IIT: IIT Indore is like a small village, people are bound together by strong emotional ties unlike those in larger institutes where a crowd of 2000 is just scattered and segregated into bunch of students. Here we live as a small happy family. There is no distinction between a senior and a junior, the teachers are easily approachable and everyone is special in his or her own way among the batch mates. Being a new IIT, it allows you to discover yourself by exposing you to everything new- from calling companies for sponsorship in the very first year to working all by oneself in new start ups and projects. Here, somewhere between 1st sem worries and last sem hurries, you grow up. It gives you a certain kind of zeal and independence and most importantly, a confidence to achieve anything- you just have to come up with your ideas and thoughts, some vibrant energy and definitely a lot of enthusiasm to participate.
- The sharp changes in OR/CR: Even after IIT Indore increased its intake in 2016 from a batch strength of 40 to 60, the CSE branch opened under 1000 and closed around 1300 compared to last year’s (2015)CR of 2200, In 2017, we are expecting CSE IIT Indore to close under 1000. Moreover, the improvement has been immense in the OR/CR of Electrical and Mechanical branches as well. These trends definitely are a testimony to the fact that sharp lines between a new and an old IIT are slowly fading and students are ready to make and shape the new IITs at a time when they were just written off on the basis of infrastructure and faculty without any critical analysis.
- The coding culture: IIT Indore has made it to the ACM-ICPC finals thrice. Not only this, IIT Indore has been the highest ranked team from India since past 2-3 years. This made IIT Indore the first new IIT to participate in such a mega contest that brought IITI to the world maps for coding. - Latest Infrastructure and the new hostels: IIT Indore Simrol campus is spread across a whooping 520 acres of land. The new campus is well-equipped in almost all aspects (other than the fact that it lies in the outskirts of the city, which might be a problem to those who want to taste the city life. But, it takes only 30 mins to reach the heart of the city from our place, not too far I think!). We shifted to our permanent campus in January 2017. - High on the cultural front: IIT Indoris have a great cultural life and the current cultural secretary is a hot favourite among the students. Every month there is atleast one cultural night planned up- from garba night to matki phod to inter-branch cult war and fresher’s- each month uptil now has been filled with entertainment and loads of fun.
