Having passed out from Delhi University, and being through the placements mess, I can answer this question really well.
Placements are the dark side of DU, that nobody has an idea about while applying for admissions after working hard to qualify for those super high cut-offs.
If someone has ever given you this consoling statement – “The college doesn’t matter dear, at the end your degree will carry the name DELHI UNIVERSITY.” That’s the biggest LIE. DU has a huge college disparity when it comes to placements.
Placements in the best colleges in the North and South Campus or Off Campus like SRCC, KMC, Miranda, Hindu, Venky, SBSC, Gargi, LSR, SSCBS, KMV (and others that fit in the list) will surely get you in the Big 4s or other big and famous MNCs, (obviously depending on how well you perform in the placement interviews) with packages ranging from Amazing to Decent depending on your college ranking, and for fancy positions like Analyst, Associate, Audit Associate..
(Makes sense? They’ve all scored above 95%?)
Like this – Record placement at LSR, Rhea Grover bags Rs 29 lakh job offer
But, if you are college is nowhere in the list, then you’ll be sitting for college or University placements for MNCs again, but for positions in their BPOs like Customer Service Executives, Process Associates, or Airlines with Cabin Crew, sometimes Pvt. Indian Companies come for university placements for positions in Sales and Marketing (which has more sales).
Here packages range from 1.5–2–3–3.5 Lpa.
Like a few listed here on DU’s CPC – CPC
(Makes sense? They’ve all scored below 95%? But you might be much better than them when it comes to work performance.)
So if you’re in the top colleges then chill, otherwise do not get disheartened. Study for your exams and gain professional experience by applying for in-office interships which will help you in getting a better job. Sometimes employers offering Internships also give PPOs to interns who perform better. Do not go for Campus Ambassador internship they won’t help you at all.
You might feel bad when your friend is working in a reputed Big 4 with a better package than yours, but their work timings end up making their routines miserable and you on the other hand will still have some time for yourself.
This information is about Graduate Placements depending on personal experiences and that of my friends. No clue about Masters.
