Hi Ann,
I hope this answer reaches you in time, I hope I’m not too late.
Firstly, let me explain why I think I am qualified to speak on the matter. It’s because I myself did my engineering in comp science from VIT. I know enough about MIT too, because my younger brother recently finished his engineering in comp science last year. Both of us are quite good at what we do. I’m a senior programmer at Ubisoft, Pune while he is a software engineer at Microsoft, Hyderabad.
VIT is a sexist place. It is also racist, though that would only be noticeable if you’re not from the South of the country (so it’s not relevant to you, or so you might think). These points are not even under debate. Check out this quora post:
What are your views about Gender Inequality in VIT University?
I couldn’t find a post about racism but I can recount a personal story where my 1st year physics lecturer made me stand up in class and went on to proclaim how all us ‘Northies’ were spoiling the culture in the South. If anything it only shows how this guy wasn’t just racist but also extremely conservative.
