Manipal CSE is comparable to BITS Hyderabad, NIT (Rourkela, Kurukshetra, Surat, Calicut etc.) and some new IITs.
The thing is that, you haven’t lost anything unless you were getting some old IIT, BITS (Pilani or Goa), top NITs ( Trichy, Surathkal etc.)
In CSE, what matters most if the self study. Knowledge of data structures and algorithms is a must. These things can be studied online much better than in a college. This strategy is used by most of the students, not only in Manipal but even in IITs, BITS or NITs or even in IIIT-H (mecca of CS).
The area where college support is required is to provide the required infrastructure for your studies and it should have good placements. And fortunately Manipal Institute of Technology excels in both these areas. The internet you get is pretty good and so is the college’s infrastructure. AND placements in CSE are very much similar to those in mid NITs, BITS – Hyd etc… The best of best product based IT companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Cisco, VMware, GoldmanSachs, Citrix etc. recruit a good number of students from this branch. That being said out of 220 students in CSE branch 130+ land in good jobs in such product based companies and are living the same life as you would expect an NITtian, BITSian or an IITian to live. 50 students who are 6 pointers work in TCS/ Wipro etc… and around 20 students go to pursue MS in other countries. The remaining 20 are either year backs or drop outs who don’t get anything.
That again being said, Manipal Institute of Technology is definitely one of the premier engineering colleges of this country and there should be absolutely no reason to have the kind of thoughts which you are having regarding this place. You are doing completely fine in your life.
Only thing which might hurt you is Sharma or Gupta uncle/auntys reaction for not studying in IITs/NITs or BITS. Please do note that, these uncle and auntys are one of the most misinformed creatures on the planet and you should ignore them immediately.
