Hi!
TL/DR: Both colleges have their own pros and cons. However, I’d say go on with SNU. Details and justification to the judgement follow. 🙂
Being a SNUite, my answer might be a little bit biased towards SNU. However, I have friends at MU through which I got the idea of the life on campus after the counselling process, upto which even I was a part of MU.
So, here begins! SNU is a young(read new) and thus is still expanding, which ensures that the buildings and the amenities provided are of modern standard. This is partly true for MU as well for the new structures which are coming up; for the older ones, that is not the case. Further, in my opinion, a residential university should not promote materialistic differences of wealth earnt by their parents among its students from their side. Here I feel that SNU has an upper edge. From what I’ve quite seen, MU advertises itself as the university of the upper class of the society. Further, there are options in the rooms (Air Conditioned, Non Air conditioned, single, shared) and other amenities which on a small level promotes the disparity among the students admitted in the university itself. Here at SNU, the university provides scholarship to all its applicants purely based on merit and all services are provided to everyone unbiased or based on merit wherever applicable(on campus jobs, etc). The scholarship too is retained by qualifying certain gpa requirement which promotes hard work and thus healthy competition among the students.
MU does have good hangout places around it which can’t be said about SNU since it lies in the middle of nowhere(well, there’s Dadri just 2 km from the campus). This does hamper immediate availability of a teeny tiny amount of goods like medicines and all. There is emergency stock of daily medicines and first aid in the health center on campus. However anything little major than a few scratches or a little bit of cough calls for admission into the hospital 17km away from the campus. The situation is surely better at MU.
As for the faculty, at SNU we have excellent faculty since it is primarily a research institute and provides good grants. There are many of our professors who have rejected other universities just for the fact of being able to research uninterrupted along with undergraduate students! Just check their profiles on the website and you’d know.
The food at both the places seems good. However I’d say that MU has a wider choice as well as a bigger menu as far as food on campus is considered. Outside food options are limited at SNU considering the fact that it lies a little away from the city. There are startups that deliver food to the campus though and the situation will improve over the next 2 years mostly.
