That’s probably because of the psychology.
Different students with different mindsets and economic background live in hostels, some are too close to the family. As the students live in hostels, it’s important that their attitude towards their residence should be positive, not the otherwise.
Suppose some student’s parents come inside the hostel….. “chhiii..Kaise rehta hai mera bachcha yahan!” “hey bhagwaan!”
Then starts the blame game.
Failed in CAT? “Mummy hostel hi Aisa hai..Padh hi ni paata..” – “Haan mera bachcha..” etc etc..
It’s a tendency to find comfort in putting all the blames on to others heads. Hostel becomes an easy escape goat then.
So one reason maybe to let the students judge the place and find comfort based on the reference set by themselves, and not by their parents.
