Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore: What type of projects is done by the final year SCSE students pertaining to Data Mining?

  • 0

I’m currently a student in final year B.Tech – CSE, VIT University and making my Final-year project under the Data Mining category.

Our project is basically a research oriented study of algorithms. Since we haven’t already started working on it and I didn’t opt for Data Mining as my choice of Program Electives, I’m still not sure what exactly we might be seeing or planning to do in the near future, but it would certainly involve some stuff like “Categorical Data”, “Data Sets”, “Missing Data”, etc. as told by my guide when we filled out the abstract.

The primary reason why we didn’t go for a product-oriented project is quite a disgusting one in itself. Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore‘s teachers have this notion that anything and everything developed using Web Technologies and programming languages like PHP, JavaScript or Python are very easy-to-make and is a matter of merely hours. It happened with us in out Mini-Project review, we made a Web Technologies product, our algorithms weren’t as complex but we tried to portray the focus more on Agile UX. The result was that half the review went in listening to the teacher’s advice and suggestions of how we could make it better and the other half in how it lacks the complexity! I wanted to shout at the top of my voice that it’s a retarded 2-credits Mini Project for God’s sake, you want me to make a Eiffel tower for it or what?, but I somehow resisted.
