As has been pointed out earlier, don’t chase numbers in college. College is where you can safely get out of the numbers rut. You’ll have loads of free time in VIT and this is something you’ll realize only once you start working. Agreed first year is a little hectic with all kinds of subjects but once you’re past that, you’ll find yourself sleeping through most days. Here’s my tip – don’t. You’re never going to have as much time on your hands till the time you retire. Think about it: you have 4 years in college followed by about 40 years where you’re only going to look forward to the weekends.
Once you start working, you’ll be obligated to chase numbers again – chase salaries, chase targets, chase promotional grades. College is the only time when YOU have the option of not chasing any of these numbers. Just make sure you do your basic things right. Don’t flunk subjects and keep your CGPA on the right side of 8.
