Before I begin, let’s clarify what we mean by ‘good’ here. I’m assuming you want to know in terms of course structure, faculty members, infrastructure and of course placements. So to start with, Jamia enjoys the position of being one of the best architecture college in Delhi NCR, and if you go by Outlook rankings, all over India as well. Having said that, the fact that it is located in Delhi, it has an edge over a lot of other colleges in the NCR where the students do not get enough exposure. Though the architecture faculty was established in 2001 only, but it has clearly evolved and developed immensely in these last 16 years of its existence. And I don’t say this just because I am an alumni of this faculty, but if you go by professionals in the field right now, you’ll find a lot of jamia graduates working in some very reputable positions.
Coming to academics, I honestly feel that it needs a lot of development in terms of bringing more industry professionals to teach and increasing the academia-industry exchange. A handful of faculty members are practising architects, as they work with the Institute consultancy itself. At the time when I studied there, we had a few very good visiting faculty from the industry. Also, at present, the Institute has started hosting various knowledge exchange events like workshops and seminars with practising architects that definitely help in developing a student’s aptitude in architecture. In terms of infrastructure, the Institute being a part of a central University, has all the necessary infrastructure needed for an architecture colleges.
