I graduated for Manipal Institute of Technology in 2017 and these are my views:
Pros:
- Lots of clubs and events throughout the year. Most of the events are sponsored by well known multinational companies and you can learn a lot.
- The marking scheme here is a hybrid of relative and absolute so if everyone in your class performs poorly in their exams, you can still get a good grade however you still need to cross the minimum passing marks.
- Most of the students you will meet are friendly and hard workers.
- No ragging (at least I didn’t face any).
- Labs are well equipped with the latest software and technologies.
- Placements are good if you are from one of the top branches.
- You can find lots of places to explore and amazing restaurants to eat in.
- The Kasturba hospital is easily accessible if you need medical help.
Cons:
- Although you will find a few amazing lecturers, most of them are very bad. Some can’t even articulate properly and it is hard to follow what they want to actually say.
- Instead of practical learning experience, most of the learning here is done through memorizing slides. Majority of the times, students just memorize slides without actually understanding what they mean.
- Because of the relative grading system, there is cutthroat competition, people fight like barbarians for one or two marks.
- Your academics will be hectic. Unless you go back and study everyday, it is almost impossible to finish the syllabus the night before the exam.
