I should answer this question. I’m a B.Tech IT student from one of the top institutes in Tamil Nadu and I’m also a Diploma holder in Computer Engineering. So, I have the experience of both. Many outsiders feel that IT is different from Computer Engineering even I felt the same during my UG admissions but the fact is both IT and Computer Engineering are same. Actually most colleges don’t have IT because they don’t have enough students to fill their computer engineering branch so they don’t have IT.
The reason behind this is Computer Engineering is created long back(before 4 decades) and seperated from Electronics to make a dedicated course for Computers but IT is introduced in colleges just before 2 decades by making minor changes in Computer Engineering to make it best to support the needs of industry such as Business processing, Computing, Electronics and Communication, Data and Information Handling, etc., all in one course (Still many people in India consider Electronics a better course than Computer Engineering like the same way Computer Engineering is considered as the better one than IT).
