There are following parameters based on that you may categorize :
1.Education & Faculties: CSE have better faculties that IT most of them are PHD Honoured or Pursuing it while in IT you may find guest faculties.
2.Placements: Both of them are getting 100% opportunities for placements till date with handsome packages. Few companies may do discrimination but thats not an issue.
3.Fun/Bunks: For that mater its a trend till my batch (2016) that IT guys are super-cool in Bunks while CSE had serious & studious students.
