What is meant by different categories (2,3 and 4) in VIT Vellore phase 2 of counselling 

In counselling for VITEEE-2017, there are 5 categories, which means there are 5 fee structure for a particular branch, there is just the difference in the fee only, you will be sitting along with people from category 1,2,3,4 and 5 in your classrooms(Not like Coachings of competitive exams that they divide on the basis of rank or category). There is No Discrimination on the basis of the category, no one actually cares once you are in the college, obviously except parents because they have to pay the huge amount of fee (if category 5) (Fee of Category 1 = Fee of Category 5 – Scholarship). Category is not predictable, Suppose if seats of Category 1 are left even in Phase 2 counselling you will get the seat in category 1. It works on the principle of HIGH DEMAND- LESS SUPPLY obviously they will ask for more money that’s it. Refer the image below, you can see that civil still has seats in Category 1 even after Day-2 of Second Phase Counselling, so if you are opting for civil you have to pay the fee according to the fee structure of category 1 whereas suppose you are opting for biotechnology, you will have to pay the fee according to the that of category 5.
