I’m not sure about this but if you are alloted seat in one of the rounds and you surrender that seat for participating in spot round then effectively you are one among those who are without allotted institute. So if someone who has better rank than yours and registers for spot round will get your seat and you might end up with a lower choice in your preference list or without any allotted institute(a small chance though). However one of my friend got EEE in nitw and got ECE in nitw spot round finally. He was the last ranker to enter ECE. You cannot rule out the possibility that someone better than you is waiting in the wings. I believe spot round is meant for those who haven’t got any institute because they have nothing to loose. Having something is better than having nothing.

Is there any risk in participating spot round of JEE Mains counselling after surrendering a seat allotted in the third round?
