What are the types of school guidance and counselling?

  • 0

School counselors do much more than help kids figure out their plans after high school. They help the students with their transitioning adolescence age and turn them into adults who are mature enough to fulfill their personal and professional needs.

School counselors are all dedicated to helping their students thrive and grow. Counsellors can be categorized based on their professional roles in any workplace. These categories can be Educational Counsellors, Vocational Counsellors, etc. Here I will discuss two broad categories that subsume all types of school guidance and counselling roles.

  • Elementary School Counselling

This is one of the most crucial periods in the life of any student. This phase witness the transition in their mental, emotional, and intellectual outlooks. They learn how to communicate and interact with others; social behavior in groups; and their attitudes toward school, friends, and teachers.

This is also the age where they experience learning difficulties, family issues, and societal nuances. A counsellor at this stage of their lives can help them manage these difficulties and can provide support by organizing various engagement activities within the school premises.

  • Secondary School Counselling

Secondary schooling is a gateway to adulthood, with all the attendant pressures. It can be challenging for even the most well-adjusted teenagers. Students are still establishing their identities, and feel the approval of their friends and social circle more important than their parents and teachers.

This is the time where they learn the process of making sound decisions for their future like the selection of their streams, colleges, and other vocational activities. A Counsellor can help these students to become responsible, productive, and fulfill their individual and societal needs.

The journey of becoming a school counselor can be difficult with all the theories and not much first-hand experience. But one certification course known as the Global Career Counsellor program which is offered by Univariety-India’s Leading Career Counselling & College Guidance Platform for K-12 Schools in collaboration with UCLA Extension offers an opportunity to apply your classroom learning practically in the Live Workshops.

To know more about this program please comment or you can google about it!

Hope you will find this helpful.

Thanks and Regards
