First and foremost, NIFT is not a placement agency. Your passion and zeal would help you weather the hard phase (usually the beginning one).
Indian fashion and retail industry is evolving. We are moving from unorganized to organized sector. It will take a couple of years or perhaps decades for the Indian fashion industry to stabilize (salary and opportunities wise). A higher ranked NIFT center definitely improves your chances to land up a good interns/job profile but don’t be fooled into believing that once you’re part of NIFT, it’s going to be a cakewalk. No. It’s the beginning of a long struggle. That’s why I mentioned the word “zeal” above. You’ll need it in a big way.
Beginning salaries are usually not the best. In fact they’re on the lower side. What’s important is to stick it out. Be patient. With adequate work experience new opportunities arise. Your pay package will also see a jump. Just be ready to slog it out in the initial years in case things don’t go well.
