Well I think it is a ride of ups and downs when you sit for placement season in VIT Vellore. Most of super dream companies make CSE and IT eligible for placement season so this makes other branch think why they even exist on this planet. Actual placement season for ECE , EEE and Mech begins in the month of august when dream companies start coming to the campus. I would like to describe my placement experience in 4 phases : Pre Mass companies , Mass companies ,Post Mass companies and 8th Semester Placement season.
Pre Mass Companies : Well most of the super companies won’t allow branches other than CS and IT to even sit for the placements . We have to wait for dream companies to arrive like a hungry lion. I managed to pass only one test out of 10 companies which arrived in august. That made me really pissed off because I missed golden chances to get placed in some really good MNCs. So my wait for posting a status of getting placed on fb was henceforth bit delayed.
Mass Companies (Jiska koi nahi hota unka TCS , wipro , infosys hota): Best part of mass companies visiting campuses is you get ODs for 15 days . So no classes for next 15 days and a chance to get employed in this unemployed world. I cleared all the written tests and was selected for 4 mass companies out of 5 : TCS , wipro , Cognizant and Infosys. I opted for TCS for a back up plan.
Finally a status 😛 #placed in 4 IT tycoons of India
Post Mass companies : Now the real struggle begins. With loads of confidence of getting placed in 4 companies out of nowhere , you again look back to Dream companies. Well I managed to sneak into GDs , Technical and HR interviews of most of the companies but I didn’t know what was getting wrong on my side 🙁 . I sat for around 30 odd companies , gave interviews late nights still no luck. Then came a startup who wanted people for the role of sales and marketing. I didn’t wanted to but somehow got an internship offer from the company but I rejected it later sensing no growth in the industry after 2 years. Now placement season for 7th sem was over and my wait for a dream offer was stretched to 8th semester.
8th Semester Placement Season : So now the phase which believe me none of us would even like to be in. With 200–250 odd students getting placed from your branch and you still roaming around clueless. Companies like BOA , ericsson , Alcatel and few startups from Bangalore came in but still I was unplaced till March. Now companies after march were scarce like a drop of water in desert since it was audit time in companies going on. Later in march came in the COMPANY.
Danske IT ( IT subsidiaries of Europe’s most Popular ‘Danske Bank’) : I went for the company PPT with almost gone hopes now . I must say PPT round was really good and the kind of royal kingdom like office they have in denmark will force you to go for the kill. They were here for associate software profile in bangalore location. First round was technical coding round in which I attempted 12 questions out of 20 questions correctly and rest were fluke. Results came in and yayy! I was selected for the next round. Next was aptitude and verbal round with a lesser time limit but i somehow managed to crack in. Next day they called us for the interview. It was a long wait and interview was mostly on my final year project and few technical questions from coding. HR asked me about my experience and few questions based on my CV. At last they asked whether you have some questions for the company. I asked them what is the chance of working in denmark office if I made it to the company because I was way too impressed with that kingdom kindaa office. They told there are chances but first of all I need to undergo several training programs and perform pretty well in my probation period.
That’s it ! it was over.
Now next day I went for the Dansfoss test and one of my friend taunted “Bhai kab tak file lekar ghumega abb toh place ho jaa”. Me : -_-
Later that evening, mail came in : Two students from VIT Vellore have been selected to work as global graduates in Danske Bank’s global graduate program and will be placed in Denmark . And there was my name ! I was placed in Danske Bank 😀 . I still remember how I danced on Bravo’s Champion song after that news. The placement season was finally coming to an end B| and that too with flying colors.
ADVICE : NEVER UNDERESTIMATE YOUR POTENTIAL. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND YOU WILL COME OUT WITH FLYING COLORS.
