Being an alumnus of Department of Mechanical Engineering, R V College of Engineering, I feel I can answer this question. If you have a good CET/COMEDK rank which will get you into RVCE, go for it. The department is quite good and there are many good teachers. I wouldn’t compare it with IITs, but the placements are decent, it has got 9 technical teams which build everything from race cars, electric to Satellites and there’s encouragement to publish papers too. Being a part of these student teams enables you to learn time management, extra skills, practical knowledge and also get exposed to international student competitions. Frankly, it’s up to you to make the best use of the facilities given to you. You’ll find students who don’t make use of any facilities and chill too . Find professors who will guide you well, if you’re interested in the research field. Take initiative. You can also join NSS/NCC. Students are actively involved in ISHRAE as well. (If you’re interested in the thermal field).
As far as the grading system is concerned, it’s absolute CGPA based system. Also, if you plan to do MS, teachers will help you with LoRs and you can start with research and publications in second year itself. There’s also a clean room facility available. Course content is pretty much standard and electives are available from third year onwards (Global and Local).
