Who are the best faculties for CSE in VIT Vellore?

The best professors I got and was lucky to get are as follows (note- some of them which I mention here, I have found them good and others may have found them mixed or bad [individual opinion])-

  1. Dr. Sendhil Kumar K.S:
I had him for three subjects- Data Structures and Algorithms [DSA] (CSE2003- 2nd semester), Information Security Management [ISM- NASSCOM] (CSE3502- 6th semester) and Technical Answers for Real-world Problems [TARP] (CSE3999- 6th semester).
He teaches the fundamentals and concepts well in the best way possible, is approachable for any problem or query, and gives fine to moderate marks (sometimes it may be a trouble convincing him, but his marking scheme is clear- where and why he cut marks [very rare that he may give random in FAT]), in project too he is good- until you are having an interesting and easy-to-explain project- this is important as he asks a lot of questions, quizzes are easy to moderate, and overall score & grade is secure too. So, he can be taken; I had no issues with him- just that he makes you work in assignments and project; but if you do, a good score and grade is guaranteed.
  2. Dr. Gopinath M.P:
I had him for Operating Systems [OS] (CSE2005- 3rd semester); pity I could not take him much for other subjects, as he is worth taking in which ever subject he is there.
He basically teaches Database Management Systems [DBMS] (CSE2004) and OS- but in 6th semester, he taught Machine Learning [ML] (CSE4020) and TARP, and in 7th semester, he is going to teach Artificial Intelligence [AI] (CSE3013) . Couldn’t take him as his seats were full in ML, was done with AI in my 5th semester, and slots were clashing in TARP, rather he got full within seconds anyways.
He is a patient, knowledgeable and a considerate professor. Makes sure that whatever he teaches is understood and clear to all- he will give practice questionnaires for revision in class, for topics learnt- particularly for scheduling algorithms. In labs, he makes sure that whatever experiment/assignment is to be done on that day, should be submitted through Schoology and within a day or two through VTOP- which is actually a good practice as it helps reduce workload. Project is also good under him- it was a single project for us, yet it was never a problem in terms of reviews; he would reschedule according to your convenience if you miss it, or the lab assistants and any other professor would take, if he is not available- at the end, fair and very good marks are awarded. Gives an easy DA (brushes up and revises all the concepts taught), quizzes are manageable and lenient correction in CATs- due to which average will be very high. But wherever you spot him, take him without any second thoughts- worth studying from him and other perks I mentioned.
  3. Dr. Prabakaran N:
I had him for Theory of Computation and Compiler Design [TOC] (CSE2002- 3rd semester).
A patient, knowledgeable and considerate professor, he teaches the concepts well with schematic diagrams and examples in class, and makes sure that everyone understands it well. His correction in CATs are lenient and reasonable- also, he gives chance to improve the marks, if you solve the paper neatly once again in A4 sheets with black and blue pen & well-drawn borders/margins, then +5 to your score is guaranteed (suppose 26/50, it will become 31/50 after this). If you falter in any of those, then +3 or +4 to your overall score; but, an increase is guaranteed, which leads to high average. His quiz is tough to crack, though. DA is project-based, out of 20 marks- which will be distributed into DA and quiz 2 (10 each), so suppose one gets 16/20, 8 in DA and 8 in quiz 2; quiz 1 had taken place earlier, before CAT1. But overall, he is worth taking; can be taken for a subject for knowledge and concepts.
  4. Dr. Govinda K:
I had him for Database Management Systems [DBMS] (CSE2004- 3rd semester).
He can be taken for the grasping of concepts. He teaches the fundamentals well in class. It is only a problem in the project, as he is very particular of the title of the project and documentation format followed- a valid and reasonable title, a well-made project and a well-made and formatted documentation is what he wants. If you follow this well, it need not be a problem. In short, follow his rubrics well. Very supportive in additional learning too- gave an alternate source other than NPTEL; if you do from there, then 10 guaranteed. His quizzes are moderate, and DAs are whatever tasks done in class, compilation and submission is what is required. Be honest during Lab Mid-Term and FAT- he sometimes comes and checks your progress; suppose out of the 7 tasks or commands to be performed, even if 1 to 2 are working, be honest and tell the progress. Decent marks will be awarded.
